DSP arrests man for gun and traffic charges following crash investigation
MILTON, Del- A man has been charged with gun and traffic charges following a crash on Friday evening
On December 22, 2023, shortly after 7:00 pm., Delaware State Police responded to a crash on Gravel Hill Road and Webb Road in Milton involving a moped.
When the trooper arrived they made contact with the operator of the moped, who was detained by a Georgetown Police Officer after attempting to leave the scene of the crash.
The driver of the moped was identified as 33-year-old Micheal Lewis of Bridgeville, Delaware.
While talking to Lewis the trooper observed signs of impairment, Lewis then refused to provide his identification to the trooper which led to a search of Lewis and his belongings.
During the search, the trooper found a backpack with a loaded handgun, a bottle of brandy, and personal documents positively identifying Lewis.
The trooper conducted a computer search which revealed that Lewis is a convicted felon and is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Lewis was taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm Previously Convicted of a Felony (Felony), Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Revoked, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Careless Driving.
He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,503 secured bond.
