Dover man arrested following gas station burglary
DOVER, Del. – A Dover man has been charged in connection to a burglary that happened early Monday morning.
At around 2:30 a.m., troopers responded to the Valero on S. Governors Avenue, for a burglary alarm, finding shattered glass from the front door. Video surveillance showed that a man wearing gray sweatpants, black sneakers, and a blue and white flannel shirt with a gray hood, had broken the glass on the front door, creating an opening to unlock the door and enter the store. He then reportedly stole multiple cans of chewing tobacco before fleeing the scene.
The suspect was later identified as 23-year-old Damien Swift, who was found at a nearby hospital wearing the same clothing seen in the video surveillance. Swift was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment for the injuries to his hand.
He was later released on his own recognizance after being charged with third degree burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
