Crash claims life of pedestrian in Dover, police investigating
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Dover man Tuesday night.
According to police, the crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the area of North DuPont Highway and Kings Highway NE. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 57-year-old victim and began rendering aid until he could be taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus. He was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
Further investigation revealed that an 82-year-old Dover man was driving a 2014 Ford Focus southbound on North DuPont Highway, approaching Kings Highway NE. At the same time, the victim was reportedly crossing the roadway south of the intersection. The vehicle then crossed over Kings Highway NE, at which point the driver allegedly hit the pedestrian.
The driver was not injured. Police say the pedestrian was not wearing any reflective material.
