CAMP Rehoboth provides resources on World AIDS Day

DELMARVA. – Let the community lead. That’s the theme for the 35th anniversary of World AIDS day.

On the Delmarva peninsula, a local organization has been fighting hard to keep community members safe, since 1991.

“For over 30 years, CAMP Rehoboth has been an integral part of HIV prevention and education in Delaware,” said CAMP Rehoboth’s communications manager, Matty Brown. “That work continues today, and it’s just as important as ever to continue that work.”

Free testing, community events and educational programs are just a few pieces of the puzzle. Brown said the work they do has a profound impact on communities with limited representation.

“Awareness at a community level is paramount,” Brown said. “We know it disproportionately affects our Black and BIPOC siblings in our community, as well as younger generations.”

That’s why Brown said world recognition days are crucial for cultivating healthier conversations, surrounding such a stigmatized topic.

“It’s important to have a day to celebrate and honor world AIDS day because we know that the stigma is still prevalent in our community, and we know that this epidemic is not over,” Brown said.
