Annual ‘Christmas in Georgetown’ event spreads holiday cheer for needy families
GEORGETOWN, Del.- It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Sussex County. The annual Christmas in Georgetown celebration will make its return this weekend.
For 11 years now the event has featured toy giveaways, free food, live music, Santa Claus, and more to spread a little holiday cheer.
Organizers told 47ABC the original focus was on the Latino community, but it’s now expanded to support the diverse community of the county.
We’re also told they’re expecting to serve upwards of 350 kids this year alone. “So many families don’t have the money, especially with today economy to buy toys for the kids or take a picture and pay for it. They don’t have to worry about that because everything is free in this event,” Kevin Andrade said.
The Historic Georgetown Association will also offer free train rides for kids.
The event will be this Saturday, December 16 at El Mercado Market at 3:00 p.m.
