Adopters find new furry friends at Brandywine Valley SPCA

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Saturday, the Brandywine Valley mega adoption saw dozens of people walk into the shelter empty handed, and dozens of pups walked out with their new owners.

“We’ve got a lot of dogs here that have been here for a little while and they’ve already found homes,” said Brandywine Valley operations manager, Laura Page.

After losing their family dog in September, Brenda and David Sizemore knew it was time to bring a new furry friend home.

“We’ve always bought dogs and we decided this time we’re going to rescue, to give a dog a home,” the Sizemores said.

Page said families like the Sizemores are making a tremendous impact on these dogs’ lives, when they opt to adopt instead of shop.

“Purchasing a dog just means more dogs are in shelters, because more dogs are being produced for a profit,” Page said. “The other thing about adopting is everything is done for you.”

And there’s one dog in particular that Page hopes finds a new loving home.

“Rocky came in on a cruelty case of seven dogs. He was in really bad shape when he got here, but he never lost his spirit; he never lost his love for people, never lost any of his joy. He is just a really cool dog,” Page said.
