Woodbridge prepares for state semi-finals against Archmere
GREENWOOD, Del.– The Woodbridge BlueRaiders are 1 win away from going to the University of Delaware for the class 2A state championship, but to do that they have to go through their arch enemy, Archmere.
“I think we’ve improved- I think we’ve peaked at the right time, but now it’s time to go up to Archmere and play a good Archmere team, hopefully we improve and at the end of the game we’re 1 point better,” Head Coach Marvin Dooley said.
In the state quarter finals Woodbridge defeated Laurel 14-6, they took that lead late in the 4th and that is something head coach Dooley believes will help them.
“We went down 7-6 late in the game, when you face adversity late in the game and come back and win it builds team character and I believe that will help us in the long run going up to Archmere,” Dooley said.
Woodbridge has a lot of star power on the team, and of those stars is in the backfield.
“We have a special running back in Traci Johnson, definitely a special guy, we put the ball in his hands a lot and he runs an earthquake too, he’s a game changer,” Dooley said.
Johnson says the team is ready for this weekends game and that they are going to continue to do what they have done all season.
“We all keep each other going, up lift each other, if we do something bad we come together and talk about it and uphold each other,” Johnson said.
At the end of the day, coach Dooley believes one thing will help them get to U-Del.
“Winning field position will be crucial and I believe that if we do all the little things, we’ll have a chance in the fourth quarter and that’s what you want to have,” Dooley said.
Woodbridge takes on Archmere Academy on Saturday November 25th at Noon.
