What pets can’t eat on Thanksgiving

DELMARVA – With Thanksgiving just a day away, veterinarians are calling on dog owners to be mindful of the foods their pets eat on the holiday.

Owner of the Queenstown and Western Shore veterinary offices, Dr. Marianne Bailey, said foods like rolls, mashed potatoes, and chocolate cake, can be harmful to a dog’s digestive system.

Dr. Bailey says it’s important to keep a close eye on your pup, to make sure they don’t get into those foods, to save yourself a trip to the vet and a hefty bill.

“Part of it is if they do get sick, your vet is probably closed tomorrow, so you need to call an emergency vet,” Dr. Bailey said. “So, you’re playing that game of trying to decide, is it an emergency? Can it wait?”

Dr. Bailey added a piece of cooked turkey, without any boney, is safe for your pup to eat.
