“We are a great connection:” Worcester County GOLD’s Vault in need of donations amid busiest service year

SNOW HILL, Md. – “We are a great connection between the needs of the community and people in our community who care,” Cranford said.

Vast Amounts of Useful Little Things (VAULT); that’s exactly what you’ll find in Worcester County GOLD’s Vault. The shelves filled with basic needs items for immediate use for the local community. “We speak with our community partners, and we ask them what do your clients need? What do the people need? When you go into homes, what are they missing?” Executive Director Nicholas Cranford said.

There are items for infants, clothing, food, hygiene products, household essentials and more. The nonprofit receives referrals from over a dozen community partners which are then prepared and picked up for distribution. “Everything in the vault is new. It’s completely new items,” Cranford said.

This season will be a busy one for the nonprofit as they’ve now provided the most assistance ever this year. Cranford told 47ABC that donations will be crucial to maintain their level of service. “If you look at the shelves these days, everything is at least 20-30% more expensive than it was just a few years ago,” he said.

“Most recently, we’ve seen a lot of requests for things like hats, gloves, and coats, and scarves. We also get a lot of utility requests.”

With the community’s help, Cranford said those four walls can continue to help change lives. “We really do live in a caring community, but people don’t know how to approach one another. Do you knock on your neighbor’s door? Do you leave some stuff outside? How do you know who needs what or what they need? The vault provides a great option for that,” he said.

To date, Worcester County GOLD’s Vault has given out more than $20,000 worth of items.
