Sussex Academy wins state championship in PK’s
DOVER, Del.– Sussex Academy defeated St. Marks in PK’s on Saturday afternoon to win the DIAA state championship.
St. Marks got on the board first with a PK to take a 1-0 lead in the 1st half. Sussex Academy would tie it up with a PK of their own late in the 2nd. The Seahawks and the Vikings would have close calls in double OT but it neither team would budge.
GoalKeeper Carter Norton was the hero of the game for Sussex Academy, Norton stopped a PK in the 2nd OT and one during PK’s to give his Seahawks the advantage. Sophomore George Sapna sealed the deal by driving in the final PK to win the game and give Sussex Academy their first ever boys soccer state championship.
