Social media threat against Smyrna Middle School under investigation

SMYRNA, Del. – Police are continuing to investigate a gun threat made to Smyrna Middle School via social media.

At 6:45 a.m., police began investigating a gun threat made on social media against the school for Wednesday. Precautions were immediately taken to ensure the safety of all staff and students. An increased police presence was continued at the school until after dismissal.

We’re told the threat specifically targeted teachers and students. The team monitored all social media channels to address specific threats quickly and immediately investigated any threats.

An increased police presence and patrols will be seen at the school for the remainder of the week.

The Smyrna School District released the following statement on Facebook:

“We sincerely apologize for any disruption to your students’ education today due to the unfortunate circumstances. Like you, the safety and well-being of our students and employees remain our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. We are committed to transparency throughout this ongoing investigation and will provide updates as they are made available.”
