Non-Profit spotlight: Main Street Gym

Salisbury, Md- The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s giving Tuesday event is just over 2 weeks away, coming up on November 20th.

One of the participants in the event in the Main Street Gym in Salisbury Maryland.

Main Street has been around since 1993 and opened their doors to build the area’s first youth boxing program.

Today they serve at risk youth through both their boxing program and their out of school learning program.

Their out of school learning programs consist of after school activities which include tutoring, participation in a variety of sports and activities, and even field trips where students get to leave the Eastern Shore.

Main Street is a organization that relies primarily on donations from supporters and Director of Operations Hal Chernoff was proud to state how they have never turned a child away who was looking to participate.

“In all the years that we’ve been doing this the main street gym and I’ve been coaching 37 years now, we made a vow that no child would be left out if they couldn’t afford to be in the gym. If they wanna be there, we’ll find a way.”
