HVAC technicians offer tips to keep your heat flowing this winter
SALISBURY, Md. – “There are electrical components that are going to quit either when it’s the coldest or the hottest out,” Corbett said.
Heat pump and heat exchanger failures; those are two of the biggest repair jobs Real HVAC Services in Salisbury said the average homeowner is up against when the weather outside is frightful. “A compressor failure is going to run you between $3,000-$4,000. A heat exchange repair, if it’s out of warranty, is around $2,000-$3,000,” Corbett said.
Sales Manager Vince Corbett told us the key to avoiding that and keeping your home warm and cozy is taking preventative action. Purchasing a maintenance plan with them gets you access to two service visits yearly and guarantees same day service to avoid getting stuck on a wait list. “If you keep a maintenance plan on a heat bump, that will keep your system running 25% more efficient than someone that doesn’t have one,” he said.
We’re also told filters play a huge role in keeping your system in tip top shape and not switching those out regularly could also lead to costly repairs. “We recommend that you change your filter once a month because a well-maintained heating system can not only save you money but increase the comfort levels of your home,” Womer said.
Delmarva Power Spokesperson Candice Womer said the winter is a seasonal peak, as customers could see an up-tick in their monthly costs to keep the heat flow. Despite that, she provided us with some tips to keep you from digging deep in your pockets. “Setting your thermostat to 68 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night can actually save you a decent amount. Any degree below 70 can save you about 3% on your heating costs,” Womer said.
Delmarva Power wants to remind you that if you have a fireplace in your home to make sure it’s airtight. If it isn’t, you could be losing heat from your home.
Real HVAC Services said that if filters aren’t changed your indoor air quality will could impacted and can put even more stress on your system.
