Holiday Christmas tree safety in your home

DELMARVA.- It’s that time of year, when people head over to Christmas tree nurseries to pick up their new holiday addition.

But Fire officials said a live Christmas tree can also introduce some risks to your home.

Dry trees, wrapped with lights, can pose a threat, so Easton Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Sonny Jones, said getting that necessary water in your tree is crucial this time of year and keeping a close eye on your colorful lights can mean avoiding a house fire.

“A healthy Christmas tree can consume up to a gallon of water a day, so to prevent a fire and to keep your tree alive during the holidays, and to make sure it stays nice and healthy, we recommend that you check the water levels in the morning and again in the evening,” Chief Jones said.
