UPDATE: Fatal crash under investigation in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Clayton woman Saturday night.

At around 9:20 p.m., police say a black 2016 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Wheatleys Pond Road in the area of Sunnyside Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the roadway into a ditch. The vehicle then rolled and ejected the driver.

The 47-year-old Clayton woman was allegedly not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
