Easton VFD Awarded rescue equipment for grain storage

Easton, Md- The Easton Volunteer Fire Department was awarded grain bin rescue equipment through a grant.

That grant was a collaboration with the Maryland Farm Bureau and Nationwide insurance, and is part of Nationwide’s Grain Bin Safety Advocacy program.

We spoke with Easton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Sonny Jones on the importance of this equipment: “This equipment is important because its designed to encase someone to prevent the grain from surrounding them. It would be nearly impossible to remove someone even only engulfed up to their knees, (from) just the pressure and the force that’s holding them in.”

Chief Jones went on further to stress the importance of equipment like what they received saying: “It will absolutely save lives.”

Along with the Easton VFD, 9 other departments across the state of Maryland received grain bin rescue equipment from Nationwide’s Grain Bin Advocacy safety program.
