Dorchester Co. boat fire under investigation
TAYLORS ISLAND, Md. – Maryland Fire Marshals are investigating a fire that destroyed three boats in Dorchester County.
Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to 4243 Smithville Road on Taylors Island for a reported vehicle/wildland fire. Crews were able to control the blaze, which involved three parked boats on a wooded lot, in roughly 40 minutes.
We’re told the fire subsequently caused a wildland fire that encroached onto the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, burning approximately one acre of land. State and Federal Forestry Services are helping in the investigation. Total damage has been estimated at $50,000.
