DelDOT wins 2023 National Roadway Safety Award

DELAWARE – DelDOT announcing they are the winners of the 2023 National Roadway Safety Award for implementing all-way stops at twenty different locations in Delaware, reducing fatal and serious injury crashes.

Between 2015 and 2019, nearly 40% of Delaware’s traffic fatalities and serious injuries occurred at intersections. Between 2017 and 2020, DelDOT converted 20 low-volume intersections statewide, mostly in rural and suburban areas, from two-way to all-way stops.

Peter Haag with DelDOT says “We are now addressing and trying to prevent and eliminate those higher severity type crashes, so everyone can get home safe an can travel the roadways in a safe manner.”

DelDOT says the twenty all way stop intersections have caused a decline in almost every type of crash based on the data collected over the last few years.
