Decatur prepares for state championship against Huntingtown

BERLIN, Md.– The Decatur Seahawks are 1 win away from capturing their first ever football state championship. It’s their first time on the big stage and head coach Jake Coleman is hard at work getting his boys ready for Thursday.

“Trying to tie up all the loose ends, but the kids are excited. It’s an unbelievable opportunity and we’re honored,” said Coleman.

Their opponent, the Huntingtown Hurricanes. they eliminated Decatur two years ago in the state tournament, but this time around it’s a different Decatur squad with different players. This team has ton of veteran leadership and coach Coleman says that will be huge factor come Thursday.

They’re able to deal with the ups and downs and the flow of the game, they don’t lose their confidence and that stability is going to be tremendously valuable on Thursday,” said Coleman.

One of those veteran leaders is Vanderbilt commit Brycen Coleman. Brycen has been around all four years in the Seahawks uniform, and he says the team has had something in the back of their minds for this season.
“We had the highs of beating the team that knocked us out last year but now we can go after the team that knocked us out two years ago so I think a little bit of that revenge tour sits in the back of our minds and I think that keeps everyone excited,” said Coleman.

For many Seahawks, this Thursday will be their final game and they are ready to leave it all on the field.
“You know it’s my senior year, Brycen’s senior year, so we have a lot of seniors that really want it, been here all 4 years just grinding so I wanna get it for them but I want to get it for myself too,” said Bolden.

And for all the Seahawk fans that have supported the team all season long, Brycen is asking you stick with them for one more game.
“We need one more game of full support- and hopefully we take it home and we can celebrate on Friday and Saturday in Berlin,” said Coleman.
