Crash claims life of pedestrian in Accomack Co.

ACCOMACK CO., Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Accomack County Tuesday evening.

Just after 6:30 p.m., troopers responded to Lankford Highway and Mason Road for a reported single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Further investigation revealed that the victim was in the left travel lane of south Route 13/Lankford Highway when she was hit by a 2018 Honda Odyssey.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Marline Trakney, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say it is not known why she was in the travel lane of an unlit area of the road. At this time, it is also unknown if Trakney was under the influence.

The driver of the Honda, 63-year-old David Peterson, was not injured.
