Cape Henlopen re-claims Division-I title

NEWARK, Del. – Cape Henlopen returned to the top of Division-I field hockey in Delaware with a 1-0 shutout victory against Henlopen North rival Smyrna.

Grace Wiggins scored the only goal of the game in the first quarter for the Vikings.

Smyrna had appeared to tie the game just before halftime, but it was waived off. Smyrna then believed they had scored the tying goal in the final minute of regulation, but officials ruled the ball had not crossed the goal line.

Smyrna had defeated Cape Henlopen in overtime to win the 2022 Division-I field hockey title.

Cape Henlopen has now six of the past seven Division-I field hockey championships.
