Cape Henlopen advances to first title game in four decades
GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Cape Henlopen Vikings ended a 39-year title game drought but downing Sussex Central, 46-14, Friday night.
Cape jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Golden Knights finally struck back with a William Harmon rushing touchdown.
Maurki James was a man on the mission for the Vikings, scoring his second of four rushing touchdowns to give Cape a 21-7 lead.
Jajuan Sturgis responded with his own rushing touchdown for Sussex Central, but from here on out it became the Maurki James show.
James scored three more touchdowns in the second half, including a pick-six, to seal the win for Cape Henlopen. Overall, he had four rushing touchdowns and the defensive score in their semifinal victory.
The Vikings defense forced multiple turnovers including two pick-sixes and three fourth quarter interceptions overall.
Cape Henlopen will play Salesianum for the DIAA Class 3A football title next Saturday at the University of Delaware.
