Week 7 Edition Of The DSI Power Rankings

SALISBURY, Md. – We now enter the back nine of the high school football regular season, and some new teams have shown up on our Power Rankings for the first time this season.

Bayside Conference

1 Decatur (6-0) – The kids from Berlin earned a hard-fought 33-15 victory at the other end of Delmarva, handing Kent Island their first loss of the season. Decatur’s offense has been the headline of the season, but the defense should get more respect, allowing just 23 points through just over half of their schedule.

2 North Caroline (6-0) – We finally get to see the rematch of last season’s playoff shootout. The Bulldogs will play Decatur in our Game of the Week on the road. This will be a test to show whether North Caroline is on the same tier with Decatur.

3 Kent Island (5-1) – We can’t fault the Bucs too much for their home loss on Friday. Kent Island continues to gain much-needed experience in the regular season as they look to make another deep playoff run.

4 Colonel Richardson (3-3) – Colonel has proven to be the top 1A school in the Bayside this season, at least according to the results against their 1A foes.

5 Cambridge-South Dorchester (4-2) – The Vikings played Colonel to a one-point loss. On the road. With a chance to win at the final whistle. They have a fiery leader at quarterback, and have shown the ability to punch above their weight with wins against Parkside and WiHi.

Henlopen Conference

1 Dover (5-0) – A slow start at William Penn over the weekend, but the Senators still recovered to win by two scores and remain unbeaten. Dover is led by a three-headed monster on offense of Nahseem Cosme, Jakwon Kilby, and John Parker. The pass rush and speed on defense causes chaos for opposing offenses.

2 Smyrna (1-4) – Don’t let the record deceive you. Smyrna has faced incredible competition to start the year, and head coach Mike Judy is getting valuable reps for all of his new starters, including his two quarterbacks. The offense has the explosive weapons in Tim Yancy and Phoenix Henriquez.

3 Woodbridge (4-1) – The Blue Raiders have rebounded nicely in 2023, led by running back Traci Johnson and a big offensive line. Woodbridge looks to be top team from the Henlopen in the 2A.

4 Sussex Central (3-2) – The Golden Knights fumbled away a golden opportunity on the road at Appoquinimink last Friday, allowing 18-unanswered points in the fourth quarter in their stunning 31-30 defeat.

5 Seaford Blue Jays (3-2) – The Jays just upended Indian River and are now in the discussion for 1A contenders.
