Walk to end Alzheimer’s Eastern Shore coming up next weekend
SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland has the highest rate of dementia for residents 65 and older according to a new report on dementia prevalence. It’s a statistic the Alzheimer’s association is keeping a close eye on locally.
“There are, in Maryland, over 110,000 people who are diagnosed with this disease, and their caregivers. So it’s a significant part of our state and it’s growing,” says Alzheimer’s Walk Development Manager Leslie Zimmerman.
It’s numbers like those that make fundraisers like the upcoming “Walk to End Alzheimer’s Eastern Shore” so important. It helps them provide vital resources to families who are caring for loved ones that have been diagnoses with Alzheimers or another form of dementia. Officials say the money they raise helps provide these services at no cost to area residents.
“We have support groups, we have community education resources and also we have a 24/7 help line that help line, it is literally every day, even in the holidays,” says Zimmerman.
The helpline number is 1-800-272-3900. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Eastern Shore will be held on November 4th at the MAC Center in Salisbury. Registration starts at 9 with the walk starting at 10. Click here for more information. alz.org
