Smyrna Police detective arrested for distribution, possession of child pornography

DELAWARE – A detective with the Smyrna Police was arrested on Monday following an investigation into child exploitation.

According to court documents, 33-year-old Michael Kealty distributed child pornography through his Snapchat account in August 2023. Federal agents obtained and executed a search warrant at his residence on September 22nd, finding additional child pornography in his Snapchat account.

Kealty has been charged with distribution and possession of child pornography. If convicted of distributing child pornography, he faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, with a maximum of 20 years. If convicted of possession, he faces a maximum of 10 years.
