Salisbury man sentenced to life in retrial of 2015 murder
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been sentenced to life in prison in a retrial of a 2015 murder.
30-year-old Delonte Bryant was sentenced to life in prison on Monday for the August 2015 murder of Dommeir Deshields.
Bryant was previously convicted of the same crimes in August 2018 and given the same sentence. The Maryland Appellate Court vacated the original jury verdict and ordered a new trial, which took place this June.
The sentence the Court could impose after retrial was limited by statute to be no greater than the sentence imposed after the first trial.
The incident took place during the late morning hours of August 3, 2015, Bryant approached the victim, 21-year-old Dommeir Deshields, in the roadway at the intersection of Anne Street and Railroad Avenue in Salisbury, shooting him multiple times. Deshields was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead later that day while undergoing surgery.
The reasons for the incident remain unclear.
