Marching Rams march to victory winning State title for Parkside high
SALISBURY, Md. – The Parkside High School marching band marched to victory this weekend.
The Marching Rams went to the U.S. Bands State Championship, winning first place in their division. The band also won the caption awards for best music, overall effect, color guard, and visual.
It’s the band’s first championship win in ten years and Band Director Spencer Koppenol said taking home a win was long overdue.
“It’s definitely very nostalgic, especially only having a few people who were in the program back in 2013, when they won chapter championships. So it was definitely good to bring home a big trophy for Parkside this year,” Koppenol said.
Parkside Color Guard member Lauren Doyle shares Koppenol’s excitement.
“I think I knew that we could do it; I was very proud- I was elated. It feels like we finally reached what we’ve been working up to,” Doyle, added.
The band’s win comes on the heels of receiving the highest score at the MMBA competition the week before, Delmarvacade of Bands, in Wicomico County.
The marching band will be heading up to Allentown, Pennsylvania, this weekend to compete in the U.S. Bands National Championship.
