SALISBURY, Md. – A man has been convicted and sentenced on charges stemming from a fatal crash last year.

The crash happened at around 4:15 a.m. on July 12, 2022, on Route 50 at Forest Grove Road in Parsonsburg. Sammy Hwang reportedly crashed into the back of a vehicle, sending the victim’s vehicle into a tree. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim died several weeks later from the injuries sustained in the crash. There were a total of five people in the victim’s vehicle, all of whom were reportedly returning home from working overnight.

Police say the investigation revealed that Hwang was driving in excess of 110 mph at the time of the crash, and a blood test revealed a .11 blood alcohol concentration.

Hwang pleaded guilty this week to two counts of grossly negligent manslaughter by automobile and was subsequently sentenced to a total of 20 years with all but 8 suspended. On release, he will be placed on three years of supervised probation.
