UPDATE: Hebron home destroyed in early morning fire
HEBRON, Md. – Firefighters battled a fire that destroyed a Hebron home early Friday morning.
The fire was reported at 24642 Porter Mill Road just after 3:30 a.m. Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the two-alarm blaze, which took over an hour to control.
We’re told everyone made it out of the home safely. The family lost everything, including two family dogs, and total damage has been estimated at $400,000. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross and other volunteer organizations.
Ted Ritchings, the homeowner’s nephew, was at the scene on Friday. He tells 47 ABC, “My uncle noticed that there was smoke coming up to the second floor, heard the smoke detectors and saw the flames licking around, from downstairs since he was upstairs. They just shouted for everybody to get out.”
A GoFundMe has been launched to help the family, which has already raised over $11,000. Donations are also being accepted at Oakley’s Farm Market on Route 50.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
