Diakonia calls on kids to help collect donations
OCEAN CITY, MD. – Diakonia is trying to fill hungry bellies, and they’re calling on kids to help.
The organization, which provides resources to homeless individuals, is hoping kids and teens will collect donations, by setting up their own food pantries.
Community coordinator, Susan Blaney, said not only is the program flexible, but kids and teens who take part can walk away knowing they left a mark on their communities, a valuable lesson on taking care of others.
“Number one, they learn what we need; I bring them in and show them the food pantry, and then they get creative and start their own food drive,” Blaney said. “They can make their own schedule, pick their own venue, make their own ideas on how they’re going to collect the items that we need.”
