Comptroller Brooke Lierman visits new Blue Oyster Packing House in Cambridge, learns ins and outs of facility
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Delmarva wouldn’t be the same without aquaculture, and Maryland comptroller, Brooke Lierman, was on the Eastern shore, Thursday, to tour a brand-new oyster packing facility in the making.
The Packing House in Cambridge will be home to much more than just Oysters. Lierman said the new Blue Oyster facility will bring increased economic growth to Cambridge.
“What’s going to happen inside these walls is really incredible. From Blue Oyster, to government offices having space here, there’s going to be so many different opportunities both for economic growth, but also resources for the people who live here,” Lierman said.
With watermen playing such a crucial role on Delmarva, Lierman said she wants to continue to support those who make aquaculture possible, like John Shockley, one of the watermen at the Blue Oyster Packing House, so they can continue to pour into the industry.
“The aquaculture industry is beginning to bloom and blossom, if you will, through entrepreneurs like Johnny Shockley,” Lierman said. “Blue Oyster [is] really essential and is really putting us back on the map, too, in terms of our innovative practices in Maryland, and on the shore.”
Lierman had the opportunity to see all of the ins and outs of the new building, getting a firsthand experience of everything the facility will offer to the Cambridge community.
