Chase leads to arrest of wanted man in Laurel
LAUREL, Del. – A wanted man was arrested following a chase through Laurel Monday night.
Just after 9:30 p.m., an officer with the Laurel Police Department tried to stop a vehicle in the area of W. 6th Street and Howard Street after witnessing the vehicle commit a traffic violation. The driver reportedly began driving recklessly on Greene Avenue, almost hitting a pedestrian, in an attempt to flee. The driver continued traveling at a high rate of speed in a reckless manner, nearly crashing into other vehicles and roadside objects.
The vehicle continued westbound on Portsville Road, then southbound on Dogwood Lane, where it briefly came to a stop. Officers tried to give the driver commands to surrender, at which time the suspect reportedly intentionally crashed into one of the patrol cars. The vehicle then continued fleeing for a short distance, again intentionally crashing into another patrol car and an unoccupied storage shed in the 33000 block of Horsey Church Road. The crashes reportedly caused both the suspect vehicle and one of the patrol vehicles to become disabled.
The suspect then fled on foot, but was quickly taken into custody. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital for complaints of minor pain and was cleared by medical staff a short time later.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of heroin and marijuana.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Roy Kolaco, was found to have a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant out of the Kent County Court of Common Pleas. He was charged with disregarding a police signal, criminal mischief over $5000, three counts of second degree reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, driving while suspended/revoked, reckless driving, and multiple traffic violations.
He was initially unable to be arraigned due to potential impairment and was held at SCI on an intoxication hold. He was arraigned on Tuesday and released on an unsecured bail.
