Car collides with school bus in Talbot Co. causing bus to flip

TALBOT COUNTY, Md. – Scary moments for nine high school students on their way to Easton High, Monday, after their bus flipped on its side.

“Shortly before 8am this morning, the state police, Easton Barrack, responded to Maryland route 328 and Three Bridges Branch Road, for a two-vehicle collision, involving a Caroline County School Bus,” Maryland State Police Eastern Troop Commander, Tim McDonald, said.

“The Caroline County school bus was traveling west, on Maryland 328, and the Kia Sportage was traveling south, on Three Bridges Branch Road,” Commander McDonald added.

Maryland State Police say a juvenile behind the wheel of the Kia ran a stop sign, striking the Caroline County bus.

In a statement from Caroline County Public School District, officials said in part: “Nine students and the bus driver were transported to the area hospitals and all families were notified.”

Commander McDonald said their investigation could take weeks to complete.

“The crash team has to pull certain data and certain information,” Commander McDonald said. “They pull physical evidence from the scene, also from vehicles, to make some calculations and come up with a determination, on vehicle speeds, as well as potential witnesses who may have seen the accident.”

In light of the crash, commander McDonald said being aware of your surroundings, even on open roads, is crucial to your safety and the safety of those driving beside you.

“As you approach an intersection, you should reduce your speed. Also, for coming on a stop, obey stop signs or any traffic control device.”
