After The Whistle: Parkside’s Logan Newton

SALISBURY, Md. – Meet Parkside’s Logan Newton, a sophomore cross-country runner for the Rams who has already made a name for herself.

She was named Parkside Athlete of the Month in October and the school named her Cross Country MVP during her freshman year. She’s had a lot of success in her time running cross country.

“I just love it because I get to be outside, and I like doing the individual sports, and it’s just really accomplishing when you win,” Newton says.

Just this season, she placed first in four meets and then got a top 15 finish in another meet with over 250 runners competing. With multiple sub-six-minute mile times already on her resume, she’s already run far in her running shoes.

“Logan’s real skill set, what’s pushing her to the next level is, especially with a lot of our runners, they’ve got talent, right? They’ve got the ability to go out there and be at the same level that Logan is getting herself to. But not everybody has the drive and the commitment to be uncomfortable and continue to push themselves physically and mentally. Logan has that, and she wants to continue to work,” Parkside Cross Country Coach Eric Sensbach says.

“I love being with my team and having people on the sidelines cheering me on, and it just makes me feel really good, especially knowing that everyone looks at me and is proud of me. So it just makes me feel really good,” Newton says.

She’s only a sophomore doing this, so Sensbach says the sky is the limit.

“Looking ahead, there’s so much potential to continue to grow. Again, just as a sophomore, being able to put these kinds of times down. We’ve got a bright future the next,” Sensbach says.
