After The Whistle: Delmar’s Jordyn Hollamon

DELMAR, Del.- Meet Delmar’s Jordyn Hollaman, the latest leader of the Wildcats Field Hockey dynasty. Led by her head coach and mom, Jodi Hollamon, Jordyn is the latest in her family to be a Wildcat great whose future goes through College Park. She’s committed to the Maryland Terps Field Hockey Team.

Following in the footsteps of her older sister Josie Hollamon and cousin Maci Bradford, Jordyn has pressure to live up to her family’s standards, but she’s going to do it her way.

“Josie and Macy both get really fired up, which is absolutely great to have. Jordan can get fired up, but she also is able to play at an even keel and just play more with her talents. So, she brings a different presence to the field than both of them did,” Coach Hollamon said.

“It’s more of just like, kind of an expectation for my family. Try and be the best I can be. But it’s really cool to have such a talented family in field hockey now,” Jordyn said.

She’s not short on talent herself, through the first dozen games of the year, she’s averaging four goals a game.

“I love playing because I love how fast it is and it’s so intense, especially when you play in the big games. It’s super fun and I love scoring goals. That’s probably my favorite thing to do,” she said.

Now it’s time for her to lead the Wildcats to their eighth straight state title and her fourth overall.

“She’s driven. She wants to win. You can’t teach that. You can’t teach the heart. You have to have it and she was born with heart. She was born with the commitment,” Coach Hollamon said.

“It’s always special to win a state championship because not everybody gets to experience it so it’s definitely special every time. I think my favorite memory is all the state championships, obviously, but the first one was definitely the most fun because I got to play with my sister and both of my cousins, so that was probably the most fun. And just because I got to experience it for the first time, which was really surreal experience,” Jordyn said.

No matter what happens, her mom will always be in her corner.

“Proud. If there’s one word, it’s proud,” Coach Hollamon said.
