$650,000 in federal funding to flow into Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Easten Shore to help combat opioid crisis
SALISBURY, Md. – Big Brothers Big Sisters getting a big lift with federal funds.
US senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen signed off on $650,000, to help Maryland organizations fight the opioid crisis.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, the funding will help them connect with local health departments for education and training.
Hundreds of kids are expected to benefit, and organizers say those kids can in turn help better their community.
“There’s 500 children that are going to be funded through this grant, and it’s going to support them to avoid substance abuse,” Senior non-profit specialist, Veronica Stancliff, said. “That will in turn affect the community. We see that children that are in our programs have positive outcomes, like academic improvement.”
47abc was told those opioid awareness programs will be geared towards both parents and kids.
