UPDATE: Arrest made in fatal block party shooting in Salisbury

9/19 UPDATE: The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says Vanlandingham has been indicted on 59 counts stemming from this shooting, including first degree murder.

Vanlandingham was indicted on September 11th and served with the indictment on September 19th. He remains held without bond.

The case remains under investigation.

SALISBURY, Md. – An arrest has been made in connection with a mass shooting that occurred at a July 4th block party that left one person dead and several others injured in Salisbury.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID), law enforcement officials continue to investigate the shooting that took place on Chippewa Boulevard during the early morning hours of July 5, 2023.

An extensive investigation has been completed, according to police. On Friday, CID served a search and seizure warrant with the assistance of the Salisbury Police Department in the 400 block of Bailey Lane.

The target of the search warrant, 22-year-old Kairee Daquan Vanlandingham, was arrested for firearm related offenses. Police say evidence was collected during the search warrant that connected Vanlandingham to the incident. He also admitted to discharging a firearm during the incident, according to police.

Vanlandingham is a convicted felon, therefore prohibited from possessing firearms. Vanlandingham was charged with assault 1st degree, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, wear a handgun on person, and reckless endangerment.

These are preliminary charges and Vandlandingham may face additional charges as a result of the investigation, police said. It should be noted that this is an active investigation and additional subjects will likely be charged in the future.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office believes that the public may still have additional information to assist with the investigation.
