Upcoming public forums look to address rising traffic fatalities in Delaware
DELAWARE – Traffic fatalities reached a new high in the first state. That’s why the Delaware office of Highway Safety is hosting a series of public forums with a focus on increasing highway safety.
Last year, DOHS says 165 people died on Delaware roadways. We’re told the goal is to get community input on initiatives Delawareans would like to see implemented.
Topics up for discussion include impaired driving, pedestrian safety, speeding, and aging drivers. The Office of Highway Safety says those areas have the most impact with fatalities and serious injuries “We want to hear from the public and get the community’s feedback. We want to know what your concerns are with highway safety. What are some things we can do to change and tailor our messaging to reach your specific communities? What do you think is going to get the message across best to you?” DOHS Community Relations Meghan Niddrie said.
A public forum will be held in all three counties. The first will be in Sussex County at the Georgetown Public Library next Tuesday, September 19th at 6 pm.
