Traffic stop leads to gun charges for Lincoln man

LEWES, Del. – A Lewes man is behind bars following a traffic stop and chase last week.

At around 8:30 p.m. September 15th, officers observed a white-colored Mazda leaving the Jefferson Apartment complex. Officers stopped the vehicle on Route 1, just south of Dartmouth Road, for a motor vehicle violation. While interacting with the driver, the passenger, identified as 23-year-old Jefferson Ramirez-Rodriquez, reportedly got out of the vehicle and fled into a wooded area.

While pursuing Ramirez-Rodriquez, officers saw him pulling a black handgun out of his waistband. Officers lost sight of Ramirez-Rodriquez in a dense brush area and subsequently requested assistance from Delaware State Police. Law enforcement established a perimeter, and a helicopter was requested from Maryland State Police. Ramirez-Rodriquez was soon located and taken into custody.

Near the area of his capture, officers located a Glock semi-automatic handgun and two loaded magazines.

Ramirez-Rodriquez was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, tampering with physical evidence, and resisting arrest. He was held at SCI on a $30,500 bail.
