Supplying the demand for truckers in Maryland with easier CDLs

The Maryland Department of Transportation says there is a high demand in the state for commercial drivers.

Truck PicSenate Bill 709 would help fix this issue starting October 1st in two ways.

First, it will help new drivers trying to obtain their CDL’s by extending practice time on their learners permits from six to twelve months.

Second, it will help existing CDL drivers by allowing them to use their vision screening from medical professionals to renew their licenses without having to come into a MVA branch.

Maryland Department of Transportation Chrissy Nizer says, “We noticed from the data that about 3,000 drivers were not getting through in that six month period.”

“We know how important it is to get CDL drivers on the road, so hopefully this will make it a little easier for them.”

The Motor Vehicle Administration hope this encourages more workers to join the Commercial trucking industry to fill the vacancies that are in high demand.
