‘So many people want to play:’ Town officials consider adding new pickleball spaces in Berlin
BERLIN, Md.- Good news could be on the horizon for pickleball lovers over in Berlin as town officials are looking into establishing more spaces to play.
Stephen Decatur Park currently has four tennis courts in use. The project would involve adding additional lines to those courts for pickleball. We’re told the idea was presented at a recent park commission meeting and received positive feedback.
City Councilman Jay Knerr told us the move would fulfill a growing need for residents. “I think it’s time for Berlin to jump on board as well because so many people want to play, and they want to play at a court that’s close by,” Knerr said.
The project would still have to be placed on the agenda for an upcoming park commission meeting. The commission has expressed interest in conducting a town wide survey to get feedback from residents.
Knerr said the project would have an estimated cost of around $1,000-$2,000. He added that taxpayers wouldn’t face that expense thanks to a fundraiser underway that’s spearheaded by We Heart Berlin. To donate, click here
If approved, those courts would be ready for players by Spring 2024.
