Salisbury University alumna creates HOPE scholarship
SALISBURY, Md. – After completing her educational journey and securing a spot as Salisbury’s Associate Vice President of Administration and Finance, Lynn Adkins is paying it forward to future SU students.
Adkins created the HOPE, (Honoring Outstanding Personal Effort), scholarship for students who complete their education in a non-traditional fashion, like herself. She said if it wasn’t for the support she received while attending college, she wouldn’t be where she is today, so she wants to offer that same support to SU students in need.
“It took me 15 or so years for this to come to fruition, but I just really want to see the nontraditional student be recognized for their efforts,” Adkins said. “It’s a heavy lift to work full time and take a class load and pursue that degree in a nontraditional fashion.”
The scholarship program isn’t up and running yet, but Adkins hopes to begin offering it to students in the next academic year. Recipients will receive $500 towards books, tuition, or any other college essentials.
