Salisbury local takes to the streets to clean up litter

SALISBURY, Md. – It may not be Earth Day yet, but one local woman is trying to do her part to keep Salisbury clean.

Michelle Nelson says it’s crucial to keep our streets clean and she took to St. Alban’s Drive this afternoon to clean up litter. When she arrived, she came across alcohol bottles, fast food bags, and broken toys as well, and she says it’s hard to understand how people driving down the road find it OK to throw their trash out the window.

“The biggest issue is there is just so much trash and I do not understand how people can just toss trash out their windows,” Nelson said. “How they just pitch it on the ground when they’re walking by; ask anyone who picks up trash and the things we find are inconceivable.”

Nelson adds that being a Salisbury local makes it even harder to avoid the trash problem in the area. She tries to get outside as often as she can to pick up the trash on the side of the road.

“I live here just like everybody else, and I just want to do my part to help make it better,” Nelson said. “I love the outdoors; I just enjoy being outdoors as much as I can, and it’s very disheartening to see all the trash.”

While Nelson was on a one-woman mission today, she hopes more people will be inspired by her efforts to help clean up the city for a better tomorrow.
