Salisbury Fire Dept. receives $73k in grant funding to purchase protective gear

SALISBURY, Md.- $73,000 in grant funding puts the Salisbury Fire Department one step closer to purchasing life-saving equipment to continue protecting the community.

The money comes from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and several other donors.

The department would purchase bulletproof vests, protecting paramedics and fire fighters when facing dangerous encounters. Those include situations like an active shooter event or even a domestic violence incident. “When those paramedics and other first responders come on scene and need to deliver aid there’s a need to protect them as well and make sure if that threat remains, they can do the job that they’re here to do for us in the community,” CFES President Erica Joseph said.

“They’re getting very close, and every little bit is helping. Even if it goes towards the purchase of one vest, that’s one first responder that has that added protection when they’re out in the community.”

Even with that funding, the department is still shy of its goal of $90,000 for that protective gear. To find out more about how you can donate to the cause, contact the Salisbury Fire Department at 410-548-3120.
