Pedestrian hit and killed in Delmar, police investigating

DELMAR, Del. – An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was hit and killed in Delmar Thursday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m., police say a white 2018 Hyundai Tucson was traveling northbound on BiState Boulevard north of Allens Mills Road. Just north of the Tucson, a man on a motorized skateboard was reportedly riding in the center of BiState Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, the man swerved right into the path of the Tucson. The driver tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian but was unable to avoid doing so. Due to the impact, the pedestrian was forced onto the windshield before coming to a rest in the northbound lane of BiState Boulevard.

The pedestrian, a 27-year-old Laurel man, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Tucson, a 21-year-old Fruitland woman, was not injured.
