New motorcycle helmet law in the First State
DELAWARE.- DELDOT has introduced a new law to reduce motorcycle fatalities in the First State.
Starting September 1st, DELDOT will require everyone who obtains a new motorcycle endorsement to wear helmets and eye protection, in an effort to keep everyone safe while on the road.
DELDOT director of communications C.R. McLeod says it’s an essential step amid an increase in motorcycle fatalities in the state.
“This is in response to the rising number in motorcycle crashes over the past year,” McLeod said. “We’ve had more than 20 last year and we’ve already had 12 to date, in 2023.
C.R. McLeod adds that DELDOT takes great responsibility in keeping drivers safe and he hopes to see a decrease in motorcycle fatalities with the new initiative.
