‘Meals on Wheels Loves Pets’ program celebrates one year of service, seeking community donations

SALISBURY, Md. – The ‘Meals on Wheels Loves Pets’ program is celebrating one year of helping local homebound seniors feed their furry friends. The MAC Center and the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club teamed up to make this possible.

We’re told the need came as many Meals on Wheels clients were actually sharing their food with their pets because they couldn’t afford to feed them. So far, 83 clients with 54 dogs and 87 cats have been served.

Grant funding helps sustain the program, but with food costs on the rise The MAC Center is looking to the community’s help with donations. “Without the funding, the program is gone. If the program goes away, that’s more clients who are back hurting again and their stress levels go up,” MAC Inc.’s Meals on Wheels Delivery Coordinator Joseph Ferraro said. “They provide unconditional love for these clients and they’re so important to them. When they feel like they can provide for their pet they feel so much better.”

We’re told the program looks to expand to provide things like vet and boarding services in the future.

Due to pets’ dietary needs, the MAC is strictly asking for monetary donations.

To be eligible, individuals must be Meals on Wheels recipients and live in Wicomico County.
