‘Isolation is very challenging to seniors:’ MAC Center celebrates National Senior Center Month

SALISBURY, Md. – September marks National Senior Center Month. The MAC Center celebrated the occasion Tuesday afternoon with their ‘Connections in our Community’ program.

The event brought together local legislators and agencies from Wicomico, Dorchester and Worcester counties to celebrate the great work senior centers do. The MAC Center was also able to highlight their Senior Center Day and Senior Plus programs.

Program Manager Cindy Hill said the day was also an opportunity for seniors to share a meal together, fellowship, and have a little fun. ‘Isolation is very challenging to seniors, so we’re able to get them together socialize and talk about different things, provide them with activities, do trivia, and more,” she said.

Hill also told 47ABC senior centers play a crucial role in nurturing the full individual and allowing them to feel a sense of purpose and independence.

The MAC Center recently started field trips for their clients to provide them more activities outside the center. Hill said they’re also seeking more funding to continue those efforts.
