Give A Vet A Smile providing dental care to Veterans

DELAWARE – The Give a Vet a Smile Program screens veterans and reaches out to local dentists for them to get free dental care.

Dental Hygienists working with the program say its important to help these veterans get dental treatment, because if they don’t and are in pain, they can turn to other substances like opioids or alcohol to self medicate.

Dental Hygienist Nancy Price says the free dental care can also help veterans fix their smiles and boost their confidence when it comes to job interviews.

“So, we do try to reach out to our Kent and Sussex Dental Society to try to push to get volunteer dentists to be aware of this program so they are aware and can accept these veterans.”

Price says that helping just one veteran can do so much good, and raising awareness for programs like the Give A Vet A Smile can provide them the support they need to live a comfortable life.
