City of Salisbury announces new Communications Director
SALISBURY, Md. – The City of Salisbury has announced that Shawn Yonker is the city’s new Communications Director.
Yonker is currently in his 9th year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Media Relations with the Hawks and brings a wealth of knowledge to this role. He has more than 16 years of experience in public relations, communications, and journalism, and also previously served as an adjunct professor of communications at Salisbury University.
Yonker began his career in Salisbury in 2004 when he became the Sports Editor at the Daily Times, and his contributions to the Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Press Association and the Associated Press earned him accolades.
Additionally, Yonker volunteers with organizations such as the Chesapeake Housing Mission, Maryland Food Bank, Salisbury City Park cleanup projects, and the Oyster Recovery Partnership. He also actively contributed as a volunteer travel soccer coach with the Salisbury United Soccer Coach.
Salisbury City Administrator Andy Kitzrow expressed his excitement about Yonker joining the team, saying, “His expertise in communications and dedication to community service are precisely what Salisbury needs as we continue to grow and engage with our residents. We eagerly anticipate benefiting from his extensive experience.”
